What is A/pART Collective?
A/pART Collective is a web of artists and creatives searching for, finding and swapping “found images” to create artworks. The collective is inclusive with many of our members being experienced artists working professionally across multiple disciplines, while many others are new to making art.
Why found images?
Found images are in the pages of magazines, advertising flyers, food packaging, event tickets and festival programs. They can be in discarded children’s books in thrift stores. Take away menus. Greeting cards and gift wrap. Once you start looking, you’ll notice how saturated our worlds are with images.
Found images are…
A sustainable art material, taking advantage of something that already exists, often destined for the bin.
Full of visual codes and messages. They tell us what is beautiful, delicious, and important in our communities from pop culture to politics.
Are a creative challenge. You never know what you are going to get when swapped and gifted.
Versatile, offering endless possibilities for collages, mixed media artworks, a starting point or reference image for an artwork.

The A/pART Collective know that creating art is…
a form of defiance and rebellion
a powerful tool for public education
an important way to care for ourselves and our communities
Sharing A/pART is built into the core of our Collective, through making and exhibiting artworks, community workshops, and a quarterly subscription Zine so you can participate no matter where you are.

Based in Brisbane, Australia, Sarah is an artist, dancer and educator. Sarah’s work often deals connection, memory and resilience in the face of climate change. She frequently combines dance, textiles, ceramics and found object/images in her works.
Sarah is happiest working and creating with others, sharing making, ideas and knowledge through collaborative projects, community workshops and secondary education.
A/pART Collective began when Sarah asked her friends Åshild and Hannie…
“Hey do you want to make some collages with me?”
Åshild Foss
Åshild Foss is based in Oslo, Norway. She is an artist, and professional project manager. Åshild’s creative practice is never limited by logistics, to a specific discipline or material. Her work regularly deals with human connections, intimacy and the intersection of arts and science.
She frequently collaborates with and creates commissioned works where science and art meet.
A/pART Collective began when Åshild responded to Sarah saying…
“Sure! And we should…”
